Spring, the perfect time to explore Cape Cod!

The Old Harbor Inn invites you to enjoy nature’s re-awakening on Cape Cod. Dozens of daffodils, forests of forsythia, and flocks of migrating birds color the Cape in Springtime. It’s the perfect time to reconnect, reconsider, or rediscover your love affair with life.
Do not wait until summer! Spend a long weekend on the Cape off season and you will be surprised at how much there is to do and see. Take advantage of our great off-season rates! Although the water may still be a little chilly for swimming, the scenery can be just as stunning as summertime, and there are plenty of fun things to do and places to dine and shop.

Sure the summer has many more activities and warmer weather that enables you to enjoy the outside without freezing off your nose, BUT there are still wonderful places to explore and beautiful sites to see. While driving around just today, we noticed how calming the marsh looks as you are on the causeway in Chatham that leads to the Monomoy Refuge. The low shrubs were a greyish tone but looked silver as the sun shone on them while the tall grass waved gently in the brisk wind that always seems present here on the “elbow”. While on Morris Island, we saw all sorts of activity. Many renovations are going on and saw a few creatures as well. One fox in particular was a stunning “red” fox with a gorgeous, fluffy tail.

It’s a perfect time just to walk along a beach, any beach and smell the ocean. Bird tracks and random treasures are all yours. Not known for loads of seashells, sometimes you get lucky and find interesting shells along the way.

Our favorite Chatham Lighthouse beach is a little over one mile from the inn (15-20 minute walk or 3 minute drive)! Offering amazing views of the Chatham Brake and the Atlantic. Chatham Break is amazing of itself, however the fun part is that we get to live in Chatham year round and see how it changes every year.

Go for a day trip to Sandwich. The Boardwalk in Sandwich is something to see. It stretches over water and marsh on the Bay side of Cape Cod and give you a look of Cape Cod Bay. It’s a beautiful setting and a site that is more accessible now than when it gets busy. The Sandwich Glass Museum is a great place to visit and learn about the Sandwich Town history and the unique contribution of the glass industry to the local community. Open Daily 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Also, the Heritage Museums and Gardens are not to be missed! The grounds are breathtaking and make you feel like you are in a story book. In between the lovely gardens you will find several galleries that present art, antique automobiles and special exhibitions. If you get hungry the Dunbar Tea Room offers great afternoon tea!

So the point of this is just to say that although its “wicked awesome” to come to Cape Cod in the summer, the spring have sites to see that have not become so popular as they do during the summer that you can actually enjoy them at your own pace and can be seen in a different perspective.

Take a chance and come and visit. The Old Harbor Inn, Chatham and Cape Cod are waiting for you. You won’t be disappointed with any of it!
