Why stay in Chatham, while visiting Cape Cod?

I don’t know about you, but packing and unpacking while on a vacation can take the ”rest” out of rest and relaxation. Taking a cruise, for example, allows you to unpack once and be done for the duration of the cruise. You are then taken to different places that you can explore while using your “floating” hotel. You move, but are not subjected to packing and unpacking every day or every other day.

Likewise, if you drive to a destination, let’s say Chatham, MA for example, and stay in one place, you have the opportunity to stay without packing and unpacking while exploring what the surrounding areas have to offer.

Sometimes you may be traveling to an area you haven’t been to before and not sure what the destination has to offer. This is where staying at an intimate bed and breakfast can prove to be very helpful. Your own personal concierge from a knowledgeable staff can lead you in the right direction.

Cape Cod has 15 different towns and each town has its own beauty. Very often we hear that a guest stayed one night in one town let’s say Falmouth, then Sandwich, then Chatham and finally Provincetown (oh the packing and unpacking). There’s nothing wrong with that if that’s what you enjoy) when in reality, staying in Chatham would have put them within an hour’s drive of Falmouth or Provincetown or places in-between!

Just to be clear, The Old Harbor Inn, Chatham, MA is 35 miles from the Sagamore Bridge (40 from the Bourne Bridge) and 35 miles to Provincetown. Located on the “elbow” of the Cape Chatham is virtually halfway between each destination! Attractions in either direction (Heritage Museum and GardensSandwich Glass Museum, Sandwich Boardwalk and The Dunbar Tea Room in Sandwich, drives along Rt. 6A to visit the the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History (many trails take you out into Cape Cod Bay or you can observe a beehive with its Queen Bee) or visit Truro Vineyards and partake in their winetasting’s that go on throughout the day. A trip to Atlantic Spice Company is truly a wonderful experience. Our guests enjoy first time visit or make The Atlantic Spice Company part of their “must” visits every time they are here. Visiting Provincetown with great shops, Race Point, lighthouses, whale watching (April to October) is always an adventure. August is Carnival time in Provincetown and is well worth the visit.

Years ago when we were trying to plan a get-a-way after our daughter was born, we drove all along Route 6 straight from Marshfield to Provincetown literally driving right by Chatham. It wasn’t until we were buying the Inn in Chatham that Chatham was on our radar. Chatham is such a special place and it is often found by accident rather than by planning. But once you do find it, you want to keep the secret all to yourself. It’s scenic, charming and historic. Shops along Main Street are unique and special. Many homes, especially along School Street have historical markers or the names of who built them or what they were previously apparent to all who walk by (walking is a great way to explore all that Chatham has to offer). Walking along the National Seashore is amazing. Time and storms are constantly changing the topography of the view from Chatham Light and all along the shoreline.

Considering how precious and little vacation time we have as a culture, it seems to make more sense to make the most of the time you have and not spending it packing and unpacking. Let us help you enjoy your leisure time to its fullest. Give us a call 800-942-4434 today and let us make your stay at The Old Harbor Inn, Chatham, MA one that you will remember forever!
