One of our favorite traditions at the Inn is to make batch after batch of these delightful cookies. They are so yummy and you can experiment with the decorations from sprinkles to homemade frosting to zesti glaze. No matter how you handle them, they are melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

Prep Time: 30 Minutes
Cook Time: 10 Minutes
Total Time: 1 Hour and 30 Minutes
Servings: 3 dozen cookies

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 sticks butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg, room temperature
  • 2 tbsp. orange juice
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions:

  1. In medium bowl, whisk flour, baking powder and salt.

  2. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg, vanilla and orange juice and beat for a few minutes.

  3. Mix in flour mixture. Blend until dough begins to pull away from sides of bowl.

  4. Take the dough out of the mixer and form into a disk shape and wrap in plastic. Refrigerate for about 1-hour.

  5. Preheat oven to 350F.

  6. On a lightly floured counter, roll out the dough to about a quarter-inch thick. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters. Place on parchment lined cookie sheets. Decorate with sprinkles. Bake for 8-12 minutes or until cookies are just golden brown on edges.
